In the early 1980’s Taylor Sensei began his study of Wado Ryu Karate eventually earning his Black Belt and teaching karate for a short time. During this period Taylor Sensei also studied informally in Jeet Kun Do, Wing Chun kung fu and the Filipino martial art of Kali.

Taylor Sensei’s study of Aikido began in 1986 under Yoshiaki Unno Shihan, 7th Dan aikido, a direct student of Minoru Mochizuki Kancho, founder of Yoseikan Budo and an original student of Aikido founder O’Sensei Morihei Ueshiba.

After several years training under Unno Shihan, Taylor Sensei was given permission to teach independently and thus in 1993 he established the West Coast Aikido Academy of Western Australia.

Teaching the Yoseikan Budo style of Aikido, Taylor Sensei would eventually learn from many of Unno Shihan’s fellow students under Minoru Mochizuki in Shizuoka City and Tokyo. Taylor Sensei especially developed a very close relationship with Kazumi Koga Shihan and now visits his private dojo in Ebina City annually, along with his senior students to elevate their aiki skills.
