Welcome to the official web-site of the West Coast Aikido Academy of Western Australia (WCAAWA). Established in 1993, the WCAAWA offers classes for adults and children in Aikido and the aiki weapons of bokken (wooden sword) and jo (staff). Classes are taught in a safe and harmonious environment and emphasize the self-defence and personal improvement aspects of Aikido. Our program offers students the opportunity to discover the full potential of their body and mind. Consequently students not only develop self-defence skills, but also greater awareness, self-discipline, self-respect, respect for others and self-confidence. Improvement in physical fitness is also a by product of any serious training. Each student's progress is monitored closely whilst they are also encouraged to set their own pace in achieving their desired goals. Progress is rewarded through quarterly gradings and if successful students are awarded a certificate and belt to indicate their level of proficiency. All instructors and black belt students at the WCAAWA are internationally accredited though affiliation with the International Budo Seifukai Federation based in Japan. The Principal Instructor of the WCAAWA, Mr. Ross Taylor, began Aikido in 1987 and has trained extensively in Japan and with instructors from other schools throughout Australia.
