"I would like to share my impressions and feelings about the West Coast Aikido Academy.

Before I registered my eldest son in aikido, I had a look at other martial arts such as karate, tae kwon do and kung fu.  While all of the martial arts that I had seen were valid I formed the view that aikido was the one that fit best for my son.

I wanted him to learn how to best protect himself should he happen to find himself in a conflict.

I then looked at some aikido schools and eventually settled on the West Coast Aikido Academy as I felt that it was the right kind of environment for children to learn a martial art.

My eldest son has now been in aikido for over two years and my second son for over a year.

The environment and training at the Academy has given them more self-confidence than ever before.  All the instructors are firm, yet considerate and understanding with the children. The team is outstanding, you can tell everyone really enjoys what they are doing.  A friendly school and excellent teachers makes all the difference in the world.

To anyone considering aikido for their children I highly recommend you visit West Coast Aikido Academy." - Santo La Piana

"I have been a member of the West Coast Academy of Aikido for almost two years now. I gain so many positive things out of this “relationship”, that it is hard to put it in words.  It is about finding “my way”.

Since my first visit, it was about “finding the peace within myself” and letting it out through the techniques. It teaches me to relax and always reminds me of the basics and where we come from.

When I started Aikido, I could have never imagined what it would open up for me. For example: I take times out in my every day life and read. Something I have never done before.

Before I started Aikido, I had a very different opinion about Martial Arts. Now I know that Aikido is something very special.

The “black belt” has a completely different meaning to me now than it had two years ago. It is only the beginning and I find this unbelievably fascinating. I see Aikido as a life long learning experience and I know it will never bore me.

I would like to thank my Sensei Ross Taylor for opening so many doors for me and letting me develop at my own pace. He is more than just a trainer for me.

The weekly training sessions

The Special Seminars offered on a Weekend

The “Get togethers” with family members of other students

And most of all the flexibility of Ross, who is always willing to offer his time for a “one on one” session;

All of the above and more make a difference and I see Aikido at the West Coast Academy as being more than just an interest to pass time. I simply love it and I look forward to many more years with Sensei Ross." - Werner Marik
