What is Aikido?
Known as "the way of harmony", aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Master Morihei Ueshiba (1883 - 1969).
What makes aikido unique is its emphasis on technical skill rather than brute strength and aggression. Students learn circular movements that are designed to blend with the attacker and utilise their energy to escape an attack, apply joint locks or throw the attacker to the ground.
Non-violent and non-competitive, Aikido cultivates an inner peace through the confidence gained by performing technique that is both powerful and graceful and highly effective.
